I have thousands of images I have yet to process. This morning I was looking back through my images for a flowing water shot and ran across a set from a trip to southwest Colorado back in 2010. I have been to the La Plata River Canyon outside of Durango a couple of times and always end up sloshing my way up Columbus Creek. In the summer, it crashes down the mountainside through blooming wildflowers and over a multitude of logs and rocks. I spend hours slowly working my way upstream stopping every couple of feet to capture a new composition that captures my eye. This image portrays the chaos which characterizes the creek.

  1. Lovely image Monte; you found some order in this chaos for sure. I grew up not far from here, and always enjoy seeing images from the La Plata Mountains. They’re underphotographed (which is good) especially compared to the nearby San Juans, but no less beautiful in my opinion. I can remember many enjoyable backpacking trips in this range.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks Greg! I agree with you that it is under photographed, but that is a good thing. I always try to plan a trip down that way every summer and can usually be assured of having the place to myself.
