Happy New Year everyone! Between the holiday travels and celebrations, I have slowly been picking away at processing images from this past year. It is quite popular with fellow photographers to create a collection of your best images from the year about now. After looking through some of their work, I thought maybe I should do that as well. Upon glancing through the years work, I realized that wouldn’t be possible at this time because well over half of my images haven’t been processed yet! I guess I will add that to my goals for the new year…

This image is one from my trip to Zion National Park this past fall. My friend Rod Hanna and I spent the day waiting out an incoming storm system and scurried out occasionally between rain and snow squalls to catch an opportunity for an image. By the end of the day, our luck seemed to have run out and the chance for a sunset looked dismal  We sat in our rooms in Springdale and took an occasional glance out the window to see if the clouds would lift. Rod had a better view from his hotel and shortly before sunset he called and said to get out there as quick as I could. I waited what seemed forever to get through the park entrance and parked at the first pullout I could find. I scrambled down the embankment to the river and managed to get in place on a footbridge and fire off a whole three shots before the lights went out. Looking back, I was real lucky to come away with this image!
