My good friend and fellow photographer Luke Tingley and I arrived at the Hidden Lake trailhead early in the afternoon leaving ourselves plenty of time to wait for a parking spot and to scout out where we wanted to setup for sunset. Shortly after starting up the trail we veered off into the valley below the towering Mount Reynolds and found our way down to the creek. One of the popular locations to shoot along Reynolds Creek is Triple Falls. Luke and I were both really interested in trying to get a shot from there, so we set off to check it out first.

After a half hour trek back and forth across the creek, we could see the falls in the distance. We could also see that there was something unusual at the top of the falls, but couldn’t quite make out what it was and continued on. We climbed up the hill only to be surprised to find a landscape painter with his canvas and all of his paints spread out along the edge. I guess there might be some company if we were going to shoot here. The falls were looking rather bleak though. With it being so late in the year, there was little water flowing over the ledges. I decided to scrap shooting there and left to head back down the creek.

On the way up I had run across two small waterfalls that I set out to find. The first one I came to was really nice and I took the time to frame up and shoot a couple of compositions. In the end though it just didn’t look right so I moved on to this waterfall a little further downstream. I preferred how the falls lined up with Mount Reynolds in the distance so I setup and waited. There were quite a few clouds in the sky when we set out, but they were quickly dissipating the later in the day it got. Fortunately, a couple hung around behind the mountain as the late day sun skimmed the landscape.
