I was looking through my catalog for a new panoramic shot from Colorado and remembered that I had taken this image last fall just down the road in Buena Vista. The stormy skies began to clear shortly after sunrise and I could see things were shaping up for some dramatic light on the mountains.

I was up early and packing to head out for a trip out to shoot fall colors, but I couldn’t pass up this light. I took off down the county road below my house and followed it south along the Collegiate Peaks towards town. There were opportunities for some good shots as I passed by Mount Yale, but I made up my mind to head to a corner that provided an impressive view of Mount Princeton. Things were changing quickly as I setup and shot series after series of images hoping to capture just the right one, this one.
