I just returned from a trip out east this past week and have found some time to process a few pictures. A photographer friend of mine that I met when he was here in Colorado has been bugging me for years to get out to his stomping grounds. Last year didn’t work with me being in the middle of getting ready for art shows, but this year the time was right so I took off for a road trip across 17 states logging 5,500 miles.

I left the house in the middle of a snowstorm. There was a good six inches on the ground when I headed out (it ended up snowing for days and we got 40 inches total!), but the roads improved the further east I drove. In a couple of days I arrived at my first destination, Greenville, South Carolina to meet up with my friend Bill Robertson. He had a plan to take me to a few waterfalls in the area before we moved up to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The first day was perfect for waterfall photography. There was a steady rain falling as we headed out. We stopped at a couple of falls throughout the afternoon with this being the last. It was a short hike back to a covered shelter at the base of the falls. What a blessing that was to not have to stand out in the rain! The water was really pouring over Reedy Cove Falls. It is an interesting set of falls with Reedy Creek splitting up above and half dropping over a sheer granite cliff and the other half cascading over rocks and boulders before meeting up at the bottom. Compositions were somewhat limited due to the structure we were sheltering in, but in the end, I really like this one. I sure wasn’t going to attempt to go out in the rain!
